Crazy Pea Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, broken into small pieces
    1 c. diced celery
    1 c. diced bell pepper
    1 small onion
    1 can water chestnuts
    1 pkg. frozen English peas
    1/2 jar bacon bits
    1 1/2 c. mayonnaise
    1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
    Parmesan cheese or mild Cheddar, grated fine
Preparation
    Layer the first 6 ingredients in casserole dish.
    Combine mayonnaise and sugar and spread evenly over top of salad, sealing to edge of dish.
    Sprinkle bacon bits and cheese over mayonnaise. Refrigerate, covered, for 6 to 8 hours or overnight.
    Garnish with tomatoes when serving.
