Crisp Cucumber Sticks - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. cucumbers
    2 gal. water
    3 c. slack lime
    1/2 tsp. alum
    4 lb. sugar
    3 pt. white vinegar
    1 tsp. each: cloves, ginger, spices, celery seed, mace and cinnamon
Preparation
    Slice and soak cucumbers in lime water 24 hours.
    Drain and soak 4 hours in fresh water changing every hour.
    Use alum in first water.
    Boil sugar, vinegar and spices.
    Pour hot over cucumbers.
    Let stand overnight.
    Next morning, boil 1 hour.
    Seal in jars.
