Japanese Fruit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. shortening
    3 c. flour
    4 eggs
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 c. raisins
    1 c. nuts, chopped
    1 c. dates, chopped
Preparation
    Mix sugar and shortening.
    Add eggs and
    flour.
    Next, add baking powder and vanilla.\tBake in 2 layer cake pans (reserving enough batter for a third layer)
    at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool on waxed paper.
    To the remaining batter, add the spices, raisins, nuts, and dates, if desired.
    Bake in layer cake pan at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.\tThis third layer goes between the first 2 layers.
