Gourmet Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 Tbsp. shortening
    2 medium onions
    2 bouillon cubes
    2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
    1/4 tsp. thyme
    3 lb. cubed beef
    1 c. red wine
    1 clove garlic
    1 bay leaf
    1 Tbsp. salt
    3 medium potatoes, cubed
    2 turnips, cubed
    4 to 5 carrots, sliced
    1 (8 oz.) can tomatoes
    olive oil
    pepper
Preparation
    Brown meat in shortening.
    Remove and set aside.
    Add a little olive oil and butter and saute onions.
    (You may need to remove some of juice.)
    Put meat and juice back into pan.
    Add 4 cups water, wine, bouillon cubes, garlic, parsley, bay leaf, thyme, salt and pepper.
    Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours.
    Prepare and add veggies and cook until tender.
    Twenty minutes before end of cooking time, add tomatoes.
