Ingredients

1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. almonds or pecans (optional)
Preparation

Combine the first 3 ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
In a medium bowl, combine the next 3 or 4 ingredients.
Mix well.
Add ingredients to large bowl.
Spread some butter in an ungreased 8 x 8-inch pan.
Bake in preheated 350\u00b0 oven for 30 minutes.
Cool and cut into squares.
Makes about 16.
