Pfeffernuesse - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. brown sugar
    2 c. dark Karo syrup
    1 c. butter (2 cubes)
    1 c. cream
    1 scant tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1 Tbsp. vinegar
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. allspice
    1 tsp. cardamom
    1 tsp. mace
    2 tsp. star anise (powder)
    9 1/2 to 10 c. flour
Preparation
    Mix the first 7 ingredients in order given; have ingredients at room temperature.
    Mix spices with 2 cups of flour.
    Add to first mixture; mix well.
    Add remainder of flour, one cup at a time, mixing well.
    Dough will be very stiff.
    Chill.
    Take a small piece of dough and roll between hands and board into round, pencil-like shape, about 1/2 inch in diameter.
    Slice off 1/4 to 1/2-inch pieces.
    Lay on lightly-greased cookie sheet and bake at 375\u00b0 for 6 to 7 minutes.
