Lyn'S Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs (one at a time)
    2 oz. (2 bottles) red food coloring
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. salt
    2 c. sifted cake flour
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 Tbsp. vinegar
    1 tsp. baking soda
Preparation
    Cream together in mixer the shortening and sugar.
    Add to creamed mixture and mix well the eggs.
    Add and beat well paste made from food coloring and cocoa, vanilla and salt.
    Add alternately to mixture the flour and buttermilk.
    Remove from mixer and add the vinegar and soda (which have been mixed together).
    Mix by hand; do not beat.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
    I use a 9-inch pan and split the layers for frosting.
