Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 c. sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
2 Tbsp. milk
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
Preparation

Blend together shortening, salt, grated lemon rind and sugar. Beat in egg and milk.
Add flour, baking powder and baking soda to mixture.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on lightly greased baking sheet. Grease bottom of glass.
Dip glass in sugar and flatten each cookie.
Sprinkle cookie with nutmeg.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly golden.
Bake at 350\u00b0.
