Ingredients

1 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 c. sifted flour
1 or 1 1/2 c. chopped or ground black walnuts
2 eggs, separated
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add egg yolks and flour.
Mold into small balls.
Dip in egg whites to which has been added a small amount of water.
Roll in nuts.
Cut a small slit across top of cookie with a sharp knife.
Bake in a slow 300\u00b0 oven for 5 minutes.
Remove from oven and make dents in each cookie with finger.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes longer.
When cool, fill dent with jelly or preserves.
