Fruitcake Cookies - "Jewels" - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. shortening (Crisco)
    2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    2 eggs
    2/3 c. buttermilk
    1 c. chopped pecans
    2 c. chopped candied fruit
    2 c. raisins
Preparation
    Use red or green candied cherry halves or pecan halves for top of cookie.
    Combine salt with soda and flour; set aside.
    Cream shortening, sugar and eggs until fluffy.
    Add buttermilk and flour alternately.
    Add nuts, fruit and raisins.
    Chill dough for several hours.
    Drop by teaspoon 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet.
    Top each cookie with fruit or pecan.
    Bake in preheated oven at 375\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
    Yields 6 to 8 dozen.
