Lemon Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. water
    1 lemon, sliced
    3/4 c. sugar
    1/2 c. molasses
    2 c. flour, sifted
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 c. shortening
    2 tsp. baking powder
    3/4 c. milk
    dash of pepper
Preparation
    Mix
    water,
    lemon,
    sugar
    and molasses and bring to a boil. Make
    dumplings by mixing remaining ingredients together.
    Drop dumpling
    mixture
    into the simmering liquid.
    Cook until dumplings
    are
    done,
    turning
    once.
    (Small ones take about 3 minutes.) When all dumplings are done, remove from the liquid
    and thicken
    the
    liquid slightly with flour and pour over the dumplings.
    Good hot or cold.
