Handy Shortcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. milk
    1 egg (optional)
    vanilla or cinnamon-sugar mix on top
Preparation
    Mix
    all
    dry ingredients.
    Work in shortening as for pie dough. Add liquids.
    If egg is not used, it may take a little more milk.
    Bake in 9 x
    13-inch
    pan or you can cut in half and use smaller pans.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 to 400\u00b0 until done.
    This is delicious with raw or cooked fruit and whole milk.
