Ingredients

1 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. warm water
2 c. flour
1 Tbsp. salt
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 c. cold water
Preparation

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
Measure flour, salt and sugar into gallon jar (will bubble to four times its volume).
Stir in yeast and cold water.
Cover with cheesecloth.
Let stand in warm place (80\u00b0 to 90\u00b0 is ideal), stirring down daily, 3 or 4 days.
It should have pleasantly sour odor.
Starter is ready. Use at once or store tightly covered in refrigerator in quart jar.
