Fruit Bars - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c. water or milk
1 c. molasses
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. cloves (optional)
1 tsp. salt
1 c. raisins
1 c. nuts or dates
6 c. flour
Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening.
Add 2 eggs, one at a time.
Beat well.
Add molasses and water or milk and mix well.
Add spices and soda to the flour; mix well.
Add to the other mixture, then add the fruit.
The dough will be quite stiff.
Form into rolls about 1-inch in diameter.
Place on the width of the cookie sheet. Press flat, coat with the white of egg which has been slightly beaten.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
Test with toothpick. Cut into bars while warm.
Makes approximately
36 bars.
