14 Day Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers
    1 pt. canning salt
    1 Tbsp. alum
    2 1/2 qt. vinegar
    8 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    cinnamon bark
    water
Preparation
    In large kettle, place 2 gallons washed cucumbers.
    Add 1 pint of salt to each gallon of water.
    Let stand 1 week.
    Pour off water; rinse cucumbers.
    Split each cucumber and return to kettle.
    Cover with boiling water.
    Let stand 24 hours; pour off water.
    Return to kettle; cover with boiling water and alum. Leave 24 hours; pour off water.
    Return to kettle; cover with hot vinegar, sugar, celery seed and cinnamon bark.
    Pour off and reheat vinegar mixture for next 3 days.
    Last day, heat mixture and pour over cucumbers in hot jars and seal.
