Cheddar Cheese Spoon Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. milk, divided
    1 c. yellow cornmeal
    1 c. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 tsp. baking powder
    3 egg yolks, well beaten
    3 egg whites
Preparation
    Heat oven to 325\u00b0.
    Grease 3-quart baking dish lightly. Scald 2 cups milk in 3-quart saucepan over low heat. Add cornmeal gradually; stir until thickened.
    Remove from heat.
    Stir in cheese until melted.
    Stir in 1 cup milk, salt, pepper, baking powder and egg yolks.
    Beat egg whites until they form soft peaks and fold into mixture.
    Pour into pan.
    Bake 1 hour or until set. Serves 6 to 8.
