Candy Cane Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. soft butter
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. powdered sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. red food coloring
Preparation
    Mix butter, shortening, sugar, egg and flavorings.
    Blend in flour and salt.
    Divide dough in half.
    Blend food coloring into one half.
    On lightly floured board, roll 1 teaspoon plain dough into 4-inch rope.
    Repeat with red dough.
    Place ropes side by side; press together lightly and twist.
    Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
    Curve top to form handle of cane.
    Repeat until all dough is used.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 9 minutes or until light brown.
