Date And Nut Loaf - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 heaping cup chopped dates
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. boiling water
    1 1/2 c. Daisey flour
    3/4 c. English walnuts
    1 c. granulated sugar
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 egg yolk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Mix dates, baking soda and boiling water and let stand in a separate bowl.
    Mix granulated sugar, shortening, egg yolk and vanilla.
    Combine this mixture with flour and English walnuts.
    Put walnuts in flour and fold in date mixture.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Grease loaf pan and place wax paper in bottom.
    Bake 1 hour or until test done at 375\u00b0.
