Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. baking soda
    5 eggs, separated
    2 c. sugar
    1 stick margarine
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 c. flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. chopped walnuts
    1 small can coconut
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 325\u00b0.
    Mix buttermilk and soda; let stand. Cream together margarine, sugar and shortening.
    Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    Alternately add buttermilk, vanilla and flour.
    Beat egg whites to stiff peaks and fold in.
    Gently stir in nuts and coconut.
    Pour into 3 prepared round cake tins.
    Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.
