Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg white
3/4 c. pecans
Preparation

Mix shortening with next 3 ingredients.
Sift flour and salt and stir in shortening mixture.
Roll dough in 1-inch balls.
Beat egg white.
Dip balls into white.
Roll in pecans.
Place 1-inch apart on ungreased sheet.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 5 minutes.
Remove from oven; press thumb in top of each cookie.
Put decorations in thumbprint.
Bake 10 minutes longer.
