2 c. sugar
1 1/4 sticks oleo
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 Tbsp. white syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. broken pecans
Preparation

Dissolve baking soda in butter.
In large saucepan, combine oleo, sugar, syrup and buttermilk, mixing well.
Cook over medium-low heat until mixture reaches firm ball stage when tested in cool water.
Use candy thermometer; cook at 242\u00b0.
Mixture will turn brown.
Add vanilla.
Remove from heat, cool slightly and beat until begins to thicken.
Add pecans and beat.
Drop by teaspoon on wax paper and chill.
