Ingredients

2/3 c. butterscotch pieces
1/4 c. water
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. buttermilk
Preparation

Heat and stir butterscotch pieces with the water until pieces melt; cool.
Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each.
Stir in butterscotch mixture. Stir together flour, salt, soda and baking powder; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating with electric mixer on low speed after each addition.
Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 x 1 1/2-inch layer cake pans.
Bake in 375\u00b0 oven for 25 to 30 minutes; cool.
