Chocolate Chip Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. dates, chopped
    1 1/4 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. baking soda
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1/4 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    1 1/2 c. flour
    3/4 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
    3/4 c. sugar
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Mix first 3 ingredients and set aside to cool.
    Cream sugar and shortening.
    Add eggs.
    Sift together dry ingredients.
    To creamed mixture, add dates (liquid and all) and dry ingredients. Beat until well mixed.
    Add vanilla and beat.
    Pour into a cookie sheet with sides greased and floured.
    Mix together chocolate chips, 3/4 cup sugar and chopped nuts.
    Sprinkle over top of cake. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 15 to 20 minutes or until done.
