Shaker Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    20 pickles (cucumbers)
    20 onions
    3 1/2 c. sugar
    3 c. white vinegar
    1/3 c. salt
    1 tsp. alum
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 Tbsp. pickling spice (optional)
Preparation
    Do not heat vinegar and spices.
    Mix all ingredients and pour over onions and cucumbers in a jar.
    Place jar in refrigerator. Shake once a day for 6 days.
    Will keep in refrigerator for 3 months.
