Congo Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. flour
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 1/4 c. brown sugar
    3 eggs
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preparation
    Mix and sift flour, baking powder and salt.
    Melt shortening; add brown sugar, stirring constantly.
    Cool.
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
    Add dry ingredients, then nuts and bits.
    Pour in greased 10 x 15-inch pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
    Makes 48 squares.
