Mardi Gras King Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
2 pkg. yeast
1/3 c. warm water
3 eggs
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
4 1/2 to 5 c. bread flour, sifted
1 tiny plastic baby, raw bean or pecan half
Lemon Glaze
colored sugar
Preparation

Combine milk, sugar, salt, and shortening in saucepan.
Scald, then cool to lukewarm.
Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl, then add eggs, lemon rind, nutmeg, milk mixture and 2 cups flour.
Beat until smooth.
Add remaining flour, a cup at a time. Knead on floured board until smooth and elastic.
Place in greased bowl, turn, then cover with a damp cloth.
Let rise in warm place about 2 hours.
