Sweet Potato Cobbler - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. sweet potatoes
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 c. sugar
    1/4 lb. butter
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. allspice
    1 qt. milk
Preparation
    Peel potatoes; slice 1/4-inch thick.
    Put into large kettle; cover with water and cook until tender.
    Cut shortening into flour and salt, adding enough water to make dough stiff.
    Roll out; cut into pieces the size of a cup.
    Remove one half potatoes (keep remainder cooking over heat); add 1 cup sugar, one-half butter and part of spices.
    Place part of dough over potatoes; top with remaining potatoes.
    Add 3/4 cup sugar, remaining dough on top; sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar.
    Bake at 450\u00b0 until crust is brown. Remove from oven; place over heat.
    Add milk; bring to a boil. Remove from heat; cool slightly.
    Yields 16 servings.
