Tomato Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 slices stale or frozen bread
    1 (No. 2 1/2 ) can tomatoes
    1/2 tsp. salt
    dash of pepper
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1 small onion, chopped fine
    cheese slices
Preparation
    Break bread into pieces and place in buttered 6 x 10 x 2-inch baking dish.
    Combine tomatoes, seasoning, sugar and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat until slightly thickened.
    Pour over bread; sprinkle with onion.
    Decorate with cheese strips.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
    Use fresh tomatoes in season.
