Great Grits - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. hot water
    1 tsp. butter
    1 small onion, thinly sliced
    3/4 c. cooked, diced ham
    1/2 c. quick grits
    salt to taste
    3/4 c. grated Cheddar cheese
Preparation
    In a medium saucepan, simmer first four ingredients until onion is just soft.
    Add grits and salt; bring to a boil.
    Cover and reduce heat, stirring occasionally, until grits reach desired thickness.
    Remove from heat and stir in cheese until melted. Serve hot.
