Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. chopped dates
    1 Tbsp. shortening
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    3 c. flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Cover dates and shortening with boiling water; cool.
    Add remaining ingredients.
    Bake in greased loaf pan at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour.
    Makes 1 loaf.
