Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers
    1 c. canning salt
    2 tsp. turmeric
    2 tsp. alum
    6 c. sugar
    4 c. vinegar
    4 tsp. pickling spice
    water
Preparation
    Select firm cucumbers.
    Wash.
    Place in gallon container.
    Mix salt with water to cover pickles.
    Let stand 4 days.
    Remove, wash and slice to desired thickness.
    Place in large container and cover with turmeric, alum and water solution.
    Let stand 10 hours or overnight.
    Mix sugar, vinegar and pickling spice.
    Cook to boiling stage.
    Pack sliced cucumbers in hot jars and cover with syrup.
    Seal.
    Let stand 1 week before eating.
    Refrigeration one day makes pickles more crispy.
