Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. medium size cucumbers
    3/4 c. salt
    2 c. water
    1 qt. vinegar
    6 medium size white onions
    4 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers.
    Slice onions and cucumbers thinly.
    Arrange in layers in earthenware crock or bowl.
    Sprinkle each layer with salt.
    Cover; let stand 3 hours.
    Drain off accumulated juice. Combine water, vinegar, sugar, celery and mustard seed.
    Bring to boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved, 3 minutes.
    Add cucumber mixture and bring to boiling point once more but do not boil.
    Pack in hot sterile jars, seal.
    Makes about 8 pints.
