Kakuma Nitsuke(Cooked Fern Shoots) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 stems boiled and sliced fern shoots
    1 (3 3/4 oz.) can sardines
    1/5 c. shoyu
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    dash of salt
Preparation
    Boil
    3 (1-foot long) fern shoots
    (yellow
    haired)
    in water until skins turn brown and stems
    become
    tender.
    Peel off skins,
    cut stems into 2-inch lengths
    and\tslice
    thinly lengthwise.
    Soak in water to rid off lye for 4 days, changing water
    daily.
    Drain
    off water before
    cooking.
    Pour
    small amount of cooking oil into pot until heated.
    Put
    the boiled, sliced
    fern
    shoots
    into pot; cook for a\tshort
    while.
    Add water, if needed, then add sardines, shoyu, sugar and salt and cook until taste sets in.
