Crandall'S Favorite Fudge - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 1/2 c. (2 lb.) granulated sugar
    13 oz. can evaporated milk
    3 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips (3 c.)
    1 lb. butter or margarine
    3 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Bring the first 2 ingredients to a rapid boil in a large pan. Boil 9 minutes or to soft ball stage (135\u00b0), stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips, butter or margarine and vanilla.
    After blending these ingredients thoroughly at low speed on electric mixer, beat at medium speed for about 10 minutes. It will begin to thicken.
    Pour into a buttered 9 x 13-inch pan. Chill in refrigerator about 2 hours, until firm.
    When firm, cut into pieces.
    Yields 5 pounds.
