Sarah'S Spoon Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. milk
1 c. warm water
2 tsp. shortening
2 tsp. sugar
1 pkg. dry yeast
4 1/2 c. plain flour
2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Heat milk over medium heat until film forms.
Melt shortening in milk.
Let cool to room temperature.
Sprinkle yeast over water in large bowl.
Stir until dissolved.
Add sugar, salt, shortening and milk mixture.
Mix well.
Add 3 cups flour.
Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
Beat in remainder of flour.
Mix well. Cover with towel.
Let rise in warm place until double in bulk, about 30 minutes.
Grease a 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan.
With a wooden spoon, beat hard 25 strokes.
Put in pan.
Cover with a towel. Let rise to top of pan (30 minutes).
Bake at 400\u00b0 for 40 to 50 minutes until it sounds hollow.
Remove from pan and cool.
Makes 1 loaf.
