Old Berliner Frankfurter Skillet - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 slices bacon, chopped
    1 small onion, minced
    1 c. chicken broth
    1/2 c. cider vinegar
    2 Tbsp. brown sugar
    1 tsp. pickling spice
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    8 c. shredded red or green cabbage
    1 lb. frankfurters
Preparation
    In a large skillet, fry bacon five minutes.
    Add onion and cook until it is tender.
    Add broth , vinegar, sugar, pickling spice, salt and pepper.
    Bring to a simmer, add cabbage, cover and simmer 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    Slash franks crosswise six or seven times, about 1/4 inch deep.
    Place them over cooked cabbage.
    Cover and cook for 15 minutes more.
