Squash Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced squash
    6 large onions
    1/4 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. vinegar
    1 Tbsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 Tbsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Combine sliced squash, onion and salt and soak 3 hours in 2 to 3 trays of ice cubes.
    Mix remaining ingredients.
    Drain squash and onion.
    Add to vinegar mixture and bring back to boil.
    Pack in jars while hot.
