Date Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 egg, beaten
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    2 c. dates, cut up
    2 tsp. soda
    2 3/4 c. flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. nuts, chopped
    salt
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar; add beaten egg to mixture.
    Pour boiling water over cut-up dates and add 1 teaspoon of soda to this mixture.
    Add alternately with flour, other teaspoon of soda and salt to creamed mixture.
    Add nuts last.
    Bake in 2 large greased loaf pans in moderate oven (350\u00b0) for 1 hour.
    Turn out of pans to cool.
    Wrap when cooled.
    This keeps well.
