Shredded Apple Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 eggs (at room temperature)
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
    1 c. finely chopped walnuts
    2 tart apples, peeled, cored and shredded
    whipped cream (optional)
Preparation
    In large bowl, cream butter, sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    Mix flour, soda and nutmeg.
    Add half the flour mixture to butter mixture and beat well.
    Gradually mix in the remaining flour, beating well after the last addition.
    Fold in nuts and apples.
