Ingredients

1 c. cornmeal
1 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
2 Tbsp. shortening, melted
Preparation

Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder and salt; mix well. Dissolve soda in buttermilk.
Add buttermilk mixture, eggs and shortening to dry ingredients.
Stir just until moistened.
Pour batter into 9-inch cast-iron skillet (or pan).
Bake at 450\u00b0 for 20 minutes or until browned.
