Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 oz. red food coloring
2 tsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/4 c. cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vinegar
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add eggs, beating well.
In a cup, mix into a paste the coloring and cocoa; add to ingredients and add vanilla.
Pour buttermilk into cup used to make paste, stirring to get all the coloring.
Sift flour and salt, and alternating with buttermilk, add to batter.
Beat well and fold in soda, then vinegar.
Bake at 300\u00b0 to 325\u00b0 for 20 to 30 minutes or until done. Makes 2 layers.
