Calico Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    dried beans
    ham hock
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 tsp. chili powder
    1 large can tomatoes
    1 small red pepper
    1 tsp. lemon juice
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Place mixture of dried beans in a large kettle.
    Cover with water and soak overnight.
    Drain and add 2 quarts fresh water and ham bone or hock.
    Simmer slowly for 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours.
    Add remaining ingredients and simmer another 45 minutes, stirring occasionally to keep from sticking.
