Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 large cucumbers
    12 medium onions
    1/2 c. salt
    1 qt. vinegar
    2 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Soak sliced cucumbers and onions in pan or crock with salt. Let set for 1 hour.
    Rinse them and add vinegar, sugar, mustard seed, celery seed and turmeric powder.
    Boil all ingredients until peel turns yellow, about 40 minutes.
    Pack pickles in hot jars. Close and process in hot bath for 5 minutes.
    Start counting after the water returns to boiling.
