Ingredients

4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. ginger
3/4 c. molasses
Preparation

Sift flour, soda, ginger and baking powder.
Set aside.
Cream sugar and shortening.
Mix molasses and buttermilk and add alternately with dry ingredients.
Chill 2 hours.
Roll out on lightly floured surface; cut 1/4-inch thick (1/2-inch for softer cookie).
Bake 6 to 8 minutes at 350\u00b0.
