Bread Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 cups milk or 1 cup evaporated milk and 1 cup water
    1 cup diced stale bread
    1 egg, beaten
    1/3 cup white or brown sugar
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 tbsp. butter
Preparation
    Scald milk. Place bread in greased baking dish. Combine egg, sugar, salt, cinnamon and vanilla. Add milk, pour over bread. Dot with butter. Set in pan of water. Bake in moderate oven 350\u00b0 45 to 50 minutes or until knife comes out clean when inserted in center. Serve with jelly or any desired sauce. May add 1/2 cup raisins, dates, figs, stewed prunes, apricots coconut or nuts before baking.
