Aunt Lily Pipes Gumdrop Cake - cooking recipe

1 lb. raisins or dates
1 lb. gumdrops (no black)
4 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. applesauce
1 tsp. soda
1 Tbsp. cold water
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Cut raisins and gumdrops into small pieces, dredge with flour. Cream shortening and sugar together.
Add eggs, applesauce, water and vanilla.
Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture.
Add raisins and gumdrops.
Bake at 300\u00b0 for 1 1/2 hours. Glaze cooled cake.
