War Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 box seedless raisins
2 c. hot water
2 tsp. cloves
2 c. white sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
4 tsp. butter or margarine
4 c. flour
2 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1/2 c. hot water
1 egg

Preparation

Mix the first 6 ingredients together and boil 5 minutes.
When cold, add flour and soda mixture.
Add egg and bake in 3 layers at 375\u00b0.
(If self-rising flour is used, omit soda.)
