Christmas Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    3/4 c. shortening
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
    2 1/2 c. plain flour, divided
    2 eggs, well beaten
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. candied cherries
    2 slices candied pineapple
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. white raisins
    1/2 (8 oz.) pkg. dates
Preparation
    Reserve 1 cup flour to roll fruit in. Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and 1 1/2 cups flour to mixture, then add vanilla.
    Put remaining cup of flour on chopped fruit and nuts, stirring gently. Add to rest of mixture.
    Make into 4 or more rolls. Chill. Slice and bake at 350\u00b0 for about 15 minutes.
