Navy Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (16 oz.) pkg. small white beans
    9 c. water
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
    1 carrot, shredded
    1/2 finely chopped onion
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 c. chopped ham
    1/4 tsp. black pepper
Preparation
    Put beans and water in large pot.
    Bring to a boil.
    Add all the ingredients, except the tomato sauce and brown sugar.
    Simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until beans are tender.
    Add the tomato sauce and brown sugar.
    Bring the soup back to a boil for a few minutes and it is ready to eat.
