Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. lettuce, chopped
    1 c. onion, sliced thinly
    1 c. green pepper, sliced thin
    1 c. celery, sliced thin
    1 can water chestnuts, drained and thinly sliced
    1 can LeSueur English peas, drained
    1 c. grated cheese
    mayonnaise
Preparation
    Layer in bowl as listed.
    Spread with layer of mayonnaise approximately 1/3-inch thick.
    Sprinkle with approximately 1 1/2 tablespoons of sugar.
    Cover with 1/2 to 1 c. grated cheese. Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight.
